Making representations and next steps

Representations can be made online during the ten-week consultation period via the Council's consultation portal.

Representations at this stage should relate to matters of compliance with legal and procedural requirements and the 'soundness' of the Local Plan, as these are the matters that will be examined.

A short guidance video has been produced which elaborates on these matters, and also explains how to make representations online.

A Statement of Representations Procedure is contained in the Documents section below.

In addition to our video, a set of guidance notes are available in the documents list below. Assistance can also be provided, if necessary.

Make your representations

Alternatively, representations can be made by email to localplan@tunbridgewells.gov.uk using the downloadable response form, or in writing using a paper response form. Paper copies of the response form can be printed using the downloadable form on the Local Plan web page. Completed paper response forms should be returned to:

Local Plan
Tunbridge Wells Borough Council
Town Hall
Civic Way
Royal Tunbridge Wells
Kent, TN1 1RS

All representations must be received by the Borough Council within the ten-week consultation period.

All representations will be submitted to the Secretary of State alongside the Local Plan and its supporting documents, together with a summary of the main issues raised during the consultation period. The representations will be considered as part of a public Examination held by an independent Planning Inspector.

Other ways to comment

If you do not have access to the internet you can call the Planning Policy team on 01892 554056 and make an appointment to view the Pre-Submission Local Plan, Sustainability Appraisal, and supporting documents at the Gateway in Royal Tunbridge Wells, where paper copies of the representation form will be available.

The Gateway is located at 8 Grosvenor Road, Royal Tunbridge Wells, TN1 2AB. The Gateway is open from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. Viewing, which is by appointment only, can be arranged by calling 01892 554056.

Please remember, comments must be received by the Council no later than 5pm on Friday 4 June 2021.

Next steps

The Pre-Submission Local Plan, Sustainability Appraisal, and supporting documents will be submitted to the Secretary of State along with the representations received through this public consultation. It is expected that these will be submitted in summer 2021. Once submitted, the Secretary of State will appoint an independent Planning Inspector to examine the Local Plan, with examination expected to be in winter 2021.

Following the examination, the Inspector will issue a decision on whether they consider the Local Plan to be 'sound', and if found 'sound', the final stage will be when the Council decides to formally 'adopt' the Local Plan. This is expected to be in summer 2022.
