Crematorium donates to bereavement charity

Category: News Published: Monday 5 January 2026

The Kent and Sussex Crematorium has donated £10,000 to the charity Holding On Letting Go.

Holding On Letting Go gives much needed support to bereaved children and young people across Kent and South East London, helping them to hold onto precious memories and let go of the sad ones before and after a bereavement.

Your donation of £10,000 for us, as a small and local charity is so very appreciated and as stated in our current ‘£350 for 300’ campaign, with a nominal cost of £350 to support a child though our bespoke bereavement services (free to all the families we support) this sum will help almost 30 children to receive that programme of help at a time they need it most; and to help move forwards positively from the grief following the death of a loved one.

We also work with schools and other professionals to help them understand and support children and young people, too - so you can be sure your generous funding is far-reaching.

The donation is thanks to the generosity of families who kindly made the decision to recycle the metals used in the construction of their loved one’s coffin, and orthopaedic implants and pacemakers, following cremation.

Kent and Sussex Crematorium is part of the national recycling scheme run by the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management (ICCM). Following a cremation there may be metals from orthopaedic implants such as joint replacements, as well as metal from the coffin which can be recycled. Metals are only recycled with the express consent of bereaved families and the money raised is gifted to local bereavement charities.

Since it started in 2007, the ICCM Recycling of Metals Scheme has raised over £20 million for bereavement-related charities.
