Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day 2025
Information about events taking place.
Remembrance Sunday – 9 November
All are invited to attend the Service of Remembrance, Thanksgiving and Dedication which will take place from 10.50am at the War Memorial in Royal Tunbridge Wells.
The Mayor, Councillor David Osborne, will join representatives of the Royal British Legion and other local organisations for the service.
The Mayor’s Chaplain, Reverend Ronnie Williams (St Paul's Church, Rusthall), will conduct the service assisted by Pastor Gareth Jones (Pantiles Baptist Church) and the Kent Wing ATC Chaplain.
Wreaths will be laid by members of the civic party, representatives of service organisations, political parties and local groups. Members of the public are also welcome to lay wreaths and will be helped to do so by the Wreath Marshal.
The service will pay tribute to last-known local survivor of WW2, Gerald Perryman who served in the Royal Artillery, and other veterans from Tunbridge Wells who have died recently.
This year those attending the service will hear three young people who will read the poems they have written on the theme of remembrance. Eliza, James and Milo are in years 5 and 6 and attend local schools.
Following the service and laying of wreaths there will be a March Past for service and other organisations to pay their respects. The Mayor will take the salute from the War Memorial.
Watch live
The service will be live streamed through the Council’s website for those unable to attend https://twbc.online/remembrance.
Roads closed
There will be disruption to traffic in Royal Tunbridge Wells town centre on Sunday 9 November, particularly in the area around the town hall. Roads may be closed at times from 10am until approximately midday and on-street parking may be restricted.
Civic Event
Following the Service of Remembrance, at 12.45pm the Mayor will attend the Civic Event at Tunbridge Wells Cemetery during which he will lay wreaths at the four War Memorials in the cemetery. All are invited to attend.
The first wreath will be laid at the Cross of Sacrifice in the WW2 Garden of Remembrance.
Armistice Day – Tuesday 11 November
Two short ceremonies will be held. The first will be at the War Memorial in Royal Tunbridge Wells at 10.55am. The road will be closed briefly and the two minutes’ silence will be marked with the firing of maroons (loud bangs).
The second will follow at about 11.45am at the VC Memorial Grove in Dunorlan Park (close to the Bayhall Road entrance).
All are welcome to attend both ceremonies.
Remembrance events will also be taking place in towns and villages across the borough, see local websites for information.
