Hawkenbury Allotment Holders' Association
Hawkenbury Allotments date back to 1892, when Tunbridge Wells Borough Council first leased the Marlpits site to provide growing space for local residents. Over time, particularly during the two World Wars, demand for allotments grew and the site evolved to its current size of around 300 plots.
The Hawkenbury Allotment Holders’ Association (HAHA) was formed in 1933 after a group of plot holders came together to organise and support the site. Since then, the Association has played a central role in developing the allotments, providing shared facilities, supplies, and a strong community for members.
In 1991, HAHA took on full responsibility for the site by assuming the lease from the Council. This marked a significant step towards independence, with the Association managing plot rentals, maintenance, and ongoing improvements.
Today, HAHA is a volunteer‑run organisation with a large membership, continuing to operate and maintain the Hawkenbury allotments independently for the benefit of the local community.
