Green Flags flying in Council parks
The Council’s parks have been awarded Green Flags.
Green Flags will be flying over the Council’s parks following the announcement on Tuesday 16 July 2024 that these outstanding green spaces have been awarded Green Flags for another year.
The Green Flags have been awarded to:
- Calverley Grounds
- Dunorlan Park
- Grosvenor and Hilbert Park
- St John’s Recreation Ground
- The Grove
- Woodbury Park Cemetery
As well as the Green Flag Dunorlan Park and Grosvenor & Hilbert Park were given the Green Heritage Site Accreditation, supported by Historic England, which recognises the work being done to manage its historic features.
The Green Flag accreditation is the international quality mark for parks and green spaces. Its award scheme recognises and rewards well managed parks and green spaces. It is testament to the hard work and dedication of the volunteers, Friends groups and the Council team that care for these places that so many of our parks have received the award.
Cabinet member Councillor Pamela Wilkinson said: ‘I was so pleased to hear the news that the parks have retained their Green Flag awards for a further year. We are very lucky to have these beautiful places within easy reach.
My thanks go to all the volunteers, the Friends groups and the Parks team who give so much of their time in all weathers to ensure our parks are places for all to enjoy. Whether they visit to walk, meet, play or just take a moment to breathe, I know that the parks are valued by people of all ages.’
The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, sets the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
Awards are given on an annually and winners must apply each year to renew their Green Flag Award status.
