Road safety show for school children

Captain Safety visited Royal Tunbridge Wells and Hawkhurst and entertained more than 700 primary school-aged children earlier this month during Road Safety Week.

Children from Tunbridge Wells primary schools’ Key Stage 1 and 2 classes came along to the Assembly Hall Theatre for a fun show with Captain Safety and his helpers, including Jemima the Ostrich. Through lots of music and audience participation the young audience were taught about the importance of road safety and general traffic awareness.

A second show took place at Hawkhurst Primary School who kindly hosted the event for neighbouring rural schools.

Arriving at the theatre, and at the school, the children were greeted by Kent Fire and Rescue Service fire engines and firefighters and then they met police, Kent County Council wardens and a local lollipop man.

Road safety priority

Captain Safety’s visit to the borough was organised by the Tunbridge Wells Community Safety Partnership. Increasing road safety for all road users is a priority for the Partnership for 2019/20.
