Roadworks at Civic Way, Royal Tunbridge Wells

Civic Way to close from Monday 28 January 2019.

Work on the project to improve the public realm in Royal Tunbridge Wells town centre will start on Civic Way, outside the library and town hall, on Monday 28 January.

Civic Way will be closed until 18 March during which time although there will be no access for vehicles, pedestrian access will be maintained. Parking spaces for Blue Badge holders are available in the nearby Crescent Road Car Park.

Improving the look of the town centre
The work that’s being undertaken will improve the look of this part of the town centre and make it a safer, more pleasant place for pedestrians. By reducing the width of Mount Pleasant Road and discouraging vehicles, more public space will be created. The setting of the War Memorial will be enhanced and the improvements will create the sense of a public square for use on civic occasions like Remembrance Sunday.

During this first phase of work, as well as the closure of Civic Way there will be temporary traffic signals for one night on Monson Road so that the pedestrian island by the exit from Civic Way can be removed safely.

Completion date
The work will take around 34 weeks in total in various phases, taking the completion date for the project to 21 September.
