What We Do: Digital Services
You may not always see us, but the Digital Services team is working hard behind the scenes to keep Tunbridge Wells Borough Council running smoothly, efficiently, and sustainably.
Acting as a central support hub, we provide technical expertise and digital solutions to departments across the council.
Our mission? To make services easier to access, processes more efficient, and information more accurate—always with the user at the heart of what we do.
What We Focus On
We work across several key areas:
- Online Forms & Digital Solutions
We design user-friendly online forms and tools that help residents and staff get things done quickly and easily - reducing paperwork and improving accessibility. - Website Maintenance & Development
We keep the council’s website running smoothly, ensuring information is accurate, accessible, and easy to find - supporting transparency and community engagement. - Automation Tools
We identify manual, time-consuming tasks and develop automated solutions - freeing up staff to focus on what matters most, while reducing operational costs and waste. - GIS Mapping
Our Geographic Information System (GIS) creates detailed digital maps that support everyone from planning officers to residents — enabling better decision-making and sustainable development. - Street Naming & Numbering
We manage the official naming of new streets and numbering of properties across the borough—ensuring consistency and clarity for residents, emergency services, and developers.
Project Spotlights
🛠️ Streetlights: We built a new interactive map and online form that lets residents report faulty streetlights directly to the right authority—whether it’s the Borough Council, County Council, or a private company. This saves time, improves accuracy, and reduces duplication.
🌳 Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs): Previously, our Planning team spent hours manually responding to TPO requests. We digitised all recent TPOs and created a system that automatically emails a copy to the requester within seconds — saving time and improving service delivery.
What’s Next?
We’re excited about upcoming projects, including:
- Field Maps: Currently in the discovery phase, this project will help planning officers work digitally in the field — reducing reliance on paper and supporting climate action goals.
- Room booking system for the Amelia Scott: We’re co-designing a simplified, streamlined booking process with staff—making it easier for the community to access shared spaces.
- Football pitch booking system: We’re working with our Leisure team to create a simple, user-friendly system for residents to book local pitches—supporting active lifestyles and community wellbeing.
Our Commitment
We’re not just building tools — we’re building connections. By working across departments and with other councils, we create joined-up solutions that reflect real needs and deliver long-term value.
We reuse and adapt technology wherever possible, reducing costs and environmental impact. And by involving staff and residents in the design process, we ensure our solutions are truly human-centred.
The Digital Services team is committed to laying the foundations for a smarter, greener, and more accessible future — one project at a time.
