More vehicles for Tunbridge Wells car club
Co Wheels, the social enterprise car club in Tunbridge Wells, now has eight cars available locally for use by members.
The most recent additions to the fleet (from 1 June 2023) are located in Amherst Road, Goods Station Road and Warwick Park.
Co Wheels cars are also in Grove Hill Road, Mount Ephraim, Mount Pleasant Road (x2) and Quarry Road.
The car club was launched by the Council in 2014 as a one-year pilot, with just two vehicles. Its popularity is such that it is now the fourth best performing car club across the country and has over 500 members. Members benefit from from being able to hire a car for just an hour or several days without any of the costs associated with owning a vehicle like insurance, fuel and maintenance and repair costs. Using a car club vehicle can provide a cost-effective and environmentally friendly way of getting around.
Councillor Jayne Sharratt, Cabinet Member for Carbon Reduction and Sustainability said:
Like many residents, I know how vital it is to reduce carbon emissions and I'm concerned about the impact climate change will have on the lives of future generations and want to do my bit! When it comes to living without a car, however, it's hard because active travel options and public transport don't take me everywhere I need to go! That's why it's so brilliant that the car club can help bridge that gap, and its popularity here in Tunbridge Wells is a testament to our residents' willingness to embrace that concept. We know that when they make the switch from car ownership to a mix of car club, active travel and public transport, it's not just a win for the environment - it's great for health and saves money too.
The car club cars are available 24/7 and are in and around Royal Tunbridge Wells in their own dedicated car parking space.
All the cars are either hybrids or small petrol engine cars and each has its own designated parking space.
Residents who would like to join the car club or find out more about being a member can visit the Co Wheels website (opens in a new window).
