In the event of an allegation of misconduct against a member, including parish/town councillors, the Council will seek the views of the Independent Person as part of its investigation. The Independent Person’s views may also be sought by the person who is subject to the allegation.

Prospective candidates should have:

  • committee experience
  • a high level of integrity
  • the ability to work as part of a team
  • be objective
  • independent and impartial
  • good analytical, communication and interpersonal skills

An allowance of £800 per annum will be paid to this post holder and training will be provided. The appointment is for a four-year term, which reflects the ordinary term of office of a councillor.
