New images show vision for the future of Palm Court at Royal Victoria Place
New images published today give residents, businesses and visitors a first look at proposals to transform Palm Court at Royal Victoria Place into a brighter, more welcoming and flexible space.
The plans have planning permission and will be considered as part of the Council's decision-making process in the coming weeks, with a final decision due at Full Council on 11 November.

Palm Court has changed very little since Royal Victoria Place opened in the 1980s. The existing roof is reaching the end of its life, and the space can feel dark and dated compared with modern retail and leisure destinations.

A brighter and more welcoming space
The proposed design introduces a new roof bringing[DB1.1] more natural light into Palm Court. The existing basement opening, downward escalator and scenic lift would be removed, creating a more open, accessible and flexible central space for visitors to enjoy.

Modernising the heart of Royal Victoria Place
Viewed from the upper level, the proposals show a brighter, more attractive environment with improved views across Palm Court. The aim is to create a space that feels welcoming, contemporary and fit for the future.

The proposals include new toilets with family-friendly and fully accessible facilities in a more convenient location. The improvements will help make Palm Court more welcoming and easier to use for everyone who visits.

By creating a modern, more flexible Palm Court, improving accessibility, attracting new retailers and bringing the basement space back into use for leisure, the plans aim to support a vibrant and successful town centre for years to come.
