Recruitment and training

Recruitment

Tunbridge Wells Borough Council works closely with partner organisations to support recruitment efforts across the borough. Please see details below on how these organisations can help your business find new staff today:

Jobcentre Plus

Did you know that Jobcentre Plus can run bespoke recruitment support schemes for businesses? Even though the Job Centre is no longer in Royal Tunbridge Wells, their services are still available to businesses in the borough of Tunbridge Wells.

Please contact the Tonbridge Jobcentre on 0800 169 0190 to find out more and recruit today.

Training

Training your employees

Local and national business groups provide a range of training and courses to local businesses. Get in touch with them as well as the Kent Business School at University of Kent who can talk to you about your training needs.

Apprenticeships

Numerous changes have taken place with regards apprenticeships, training and careers guidance for young people. Please visit the government's apprenticeships website for the latest information on funding and how to go about setting up the apprenticeships. At a basic level, if you are a small business (less than 50 employees) then you pay 5% of the training and assessment costs of those over 19 and nothing for those aged 16-18. You still need to pay the salary. North Kent College and Hadlow College both offer apprenticeship training. There are a number of other training agencies across the UK, so please use the government's apprenticeship training search tool for your role.

For individuals

  • The National Careers Service is for all from the age of 13. CXK has a service in Kent for adults too.
  • Construction Skills Certification Schemes (CSCS) cards provide evidence of skills and competence for working on construction sites. All CSCS cards cost £36 and all CITB HS&E tests cost £22.50.
