Asbestos disposal

When asbestos materials are damaged or disturbed they can release dangerous fibres which, if breathed in, can cause serious illness. Generally asbestos is only a risk if asbestos fibres are released into the air and then inhaled.

If asbestos materials are in good condition and in a position where it’s not likely to be damaged or worked on (for example drilled, cut or sawn or disturbed), it is generally better to leave it in place and manage the risk.

The council does not provide an asbestos removal service.

There is an asbestos disposal facility at the North Farm household waste and recycling centre.
