Energy Support Payment announced for eligible households
The Government has announced a new £100 Energy Support Payment to help households with rising energy costs as part of the 2026 Autumn Budget.
The payment will be made to eligible households in Council Tax bands A to D in England, with payments expected to begin from January 2027.
Eligible residents who pay their Council Tax by Direct Debit will receive the payment automatically into their bank account.
Eligible residents who do not pay by Direct Debit will be able to apply for the payment through a process that will be announced by the Government and local councils in due course.
The Council is currently waiting for detailed guidance from the Government on how the scheme will operate. Once this information has been received, further details about eligibility, payment arrangements and application processes will be published on this website.
Residents do not need to contact the council at this stage.
Updates will be provided as soon as further information becomes available.
