Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day 2024

Remembrance Sunday – 10 November 2024

All are welcome to attend the Service of Remembrance, Thanksgiving and Dedication which will take place from 10.45am at the War Memorial in Royal Tunbridge Wells.

The Mayor, Councillor Nancy Warne, will join representatives of the Royal British Legion and other local organisations for the service.

The Reverend Ann Pollington, the Mayor’s Chaplain, will conduct the service assisted by Pastor Gareth Jones of the Pantiles Baptist Church.

Wreaths will be laid by members of the civic party, representatives of service organisations, political parties and local groups, and members of the public.

Following the service and laying of wreaths there will be a March Past for service and other organisations to pay their respects. The Mayor will take the salute from the War Memorial.

Roads closed

There will be disruption to traffic in Royal Tunbridge Wells town centre on Sunday 10 November, particularly in the area around the town hall. Roads may be closed at times from 10am until approximately midday and on-street parking may be restricted.

Civic Event

Following the Service of Remembrance, at 12.45pm the Mayor will attend the Civic Event at Tunbridge Wells Cemetery, Benhall Mill Road, during which she will lay wreaths at the four War Memorials in the cemetery.

The first wreath will be laid at the Cross of Sacrifice in the WW2 Garden of Remembrance.

All are welcome to attend the Civic Event.

Armistice Day – Monday 11 November

There will be two short ceremonies which the Mayor will attend.

The first will be at the War Memorial in Royal Tunbridge Wells at 11am. The road will be closed briefly and the two minutes’ silence will be marked with the firing of maroons.

The second will follow at about 11.40am at the VC Memorial Grove in Dunorlan Park (close to the Bayhall Road entrance) where members of the Royal British Legion will lay wreaths.

All are welcome to attend both ceremonies.
