The Economic Development at Tunbridge Wells Borough Council is excited to celebrate some of the brilliant Tunbridge Wells women in business to recognise International Women’s Day on Wednesday 8th March. Through a series of video interviews, discover the faces behind each brand and hear more about their visions and inspirational careers.
The TN Card
Jess Gibson has always been passionate about supporting local so 3 years ago Jess founded the TN card, a local loyalty scheme. High Street independents can join the TN card free of charge, but thank the TN card members with a special offer reward.
Barsleys
Barsleys Departement Store is a family business dating from 1891 when Charles Barsleys took over a tailoring establishment in Brenchley village. Today, Barsleys is based in Paddock Wood and offers an array of products including homeware, haberdashery, children’s clothes and toys as well as adult fashion. Alice Barsley, tells us more about Barsleys’ history and their commitment to quality service.
Kata Jewellery
Jennifer is the co-owner of Kata Jewellery in the St John’s area of Royal Tunbridge Wells. Hear how she found her place in a male dominated industry and what makes Kata’s jewellery so special and personal.
The Finance and Property Hub
Gillian has connected her well established business contacts under one roof to provide all the financial services individuals or business may require. Recently, Gillian has also launched the Property Hub.
The Pantiles Oriental Carpet
Judith has been trading since 1980 on the historic Lower Pantiles, Royal Tunbridge Wells. Her specialist rugs are created using methods practised by generations of women.
The Glass House
The Glass House project was founded by Kali and Maria to offer women in prison new skills and experience. As their motto says, they are ‘helping people grow’ through horticultural training based in the disused glasshouses of UK prisons. Plants have many proven benefits for wellbeing and the Glass House offers plantscaping services for businesses and individuals as well as a selection of plants for sale in their shop in Cranbrook.
14 Arrows
14 Arrows is a tattoo parlour and coffee shop in the centre of Royal Tunbridge Wells. Katy, Emma and Jo, who all have very different backgrounds prior to joining the business, share what inspired them to become tattoo artists.
The Ceramic Studio
Rani founded the Ceramic Studio when she discovered her passion for pottery. The studio in Brenchley, welcomes all levels of potters to their regular workshops and there are also courses taught by professional tutors and artists.
Spur Creative
Sophie had a complete change in career to become a welder at Spur Creative. The workshop is an explosion of creativity and craftsmanship with projects ranging from video game figurines to promotional props and visual merchandising for Ralph Lauren, M&S or Lindt.
