Tunbridge Wells Borough Council Plan

A new plan for Tunbridge Wells borough was approved by Full Council on 1 March 2023

The Building a Better Borough: Tunbridge Wells Borough Council Plan 2022-24 sets out the priorities for 2022-24 with the overarching aim of ‘doing the best for our residents, our businesses and our borough’.

The Council has identified five areas where it can add most value to improving quality of life for residents and business and has prioritised these as the Focus on Five:

  • Safeguarding finances
  • Vibrant and safer towns and villages
  • Carbon reduction
  • Genuinely affordable housing and social rental housing
  • Digital access, transparency and local democracy

The plan identifies actions already completed for each of the Focus on Five and future actions under each heading.

The plan acknowledges the difficult circumstances in which the Council has operated in recent years. These, and the current period of rising costs and high inflation, all of which have resulted in greater demands on services, have happened at a time when the Council has had less money to operate with.

Council Leader Ben Chapelard said:

‘The Council is a force for good. Our plan is about where we can make the biggest difference to all who live and work in the borough. We live in challenging times! The way we live our daily lives is changing in so many ways. The Council is responding to a new normal. I urge everyone to have their say on our plan when the residents’ survey launches over the summer. This feedback will be very useful as we begin work on shaping the ambitions for our borough until 2030.’

While the plan covers the period until 2024 work is underway to develop a longer-term corporate plan which will encompass changes to the way we live and work following the Covid pandemic.
