Crescent Road toilets

The public toilets at Crescent Road car park, Royal Tunbridge Wells will be permanently closed from 2 October 2023.

Alternative facilities are now available just a short walk away in the nearby Amelia Scott building.

Closing the toilets will save money as currently the running costs for the Crescent Road toilets are around £23,000 a year. Because the toilet building is in a very poor state requiring costly maintenance work the council is exploring the possibility of demolishing the building to end the ongoing expense.

The decision to close the toilets falls within the remit of Deputy Leader and Cabinet member with responsibility for Communities, Councillor Nancy Warne, who said:

I know some people will be disappointed that the Crescent Road toilets are closing but would like to reassure residents that there are alternative facilities nearby.

The Council has to look at making savings wherever it can in this difficult financial climate. The building is not in a good state of repair and the future repair and maintenance costs are likely be considerably higher.

We are also reviewing the toilets we are responsible for in Paddock Wood and in Sissinghurst and have approached the respective town and parish council with a view to them taking over the toilets. The facilities in Sissinghurst will remain open. They are owned by the parish council who will be assuming the responsibility for their running on 10 September. Discussions with Paddock Wood Town Council on the future of the toilets here have yet to take place. Should both these facilities be transferred that would mean a further saving of £25,000 a year for the borough.
