Ukraine - a statement of support

In support for the people of Ukraine, and their family and friends living in the Tunbridge Wells borough, Leader of Tunbridge Wells Borough Council Councillor Tom Dawlings, has in common with the four political groups of the Local Government Association, endorsed a statement from the political leadership of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR), strongly condemning the multiple attacks and violations of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.

Theatre performances cancelled

Earlier, the Council-owned Assembly Hall Theatre announced that it has been mutually agreed between Amande Concerts Limited and the theatre to cancel the planned performances of Madama Butterfly on 17 March and the Sleeping Beauty on 22 November 2022.

In a statement the theatre said: 'Anyone holding a ticket for either performance will be contacted as soon as possible to arrange a refund on their purchase. Our thoughts are with all affected by the ongoing events in the Ukraine, and we are looking to as soon as possible light up the theatre in blue and yellow to show our support.'

The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) has launched its Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal, donating through DEC means the UK Government will match pound-for-pound up to £20 million donated by the public to this appeal.

The British Red Cross has launched a Ukraine Crisis Appeal to support the work of the Ukrainian Red Cross to fund food, water, first aid, medicines, warm clothes, and shelter.
