Ice rink tickets are now on sale

Celebrating its tenth birthday in 2020, Skate returns to Tunbridge Wells.

Tickets are now on sale for Skate 2020, the popular ice rink that is returning again this year to transform Calverley Grounds in Royal Tunbridge Wells into a magical festive destination.

Marking the start of the festive season the Assembly Hall Theatre’s real ice rink Skate will be open from Friday 13 November until Sunday 3 January, and to celebrate its tenth birthday the rink is offering a special birthday present of a free ticket for young skaters who also turned 10 this year (subject to availability and during Saver sessions only).

Cabinet member Councillor Jane March said:

The ice rink is coming. It’s fantastic to know that it’s still going ahead despite all the problems of 2020. A skating trip to Calverley Grounds is now a must-do for many of us during the Christmas period and I think this year, more than ever, it will be wonderful to do something that is reassuringly familiar but still safe and within government guidelines. Book your tickets now and don’t miss out on the fun.

Ticket prices and how to book

Ticket prices start from – child £8.00 adult £12.00 student £10.00 and the rink is a GO! Card venue. Book online at skatetw.co.uk, telephone bookings can be made by calling 01892 530613.

On-the-day online tickets may be purchased at the rink subject to availability.

The skating experience will be very familiar to regular visitors. There will be parent and toddler sessions at 9.15am at weekends and, following its popularity last year, curling will be available during some of the evening sessions.

Ensuring safe skating

Some changes are being implemented to ensure everyone’s safety, and to maximise everyone’s enjoyment of their Skate 2020 visit.

Reduced capacity on the rink will mean more room for skaters and more room for social distancing.

To help with this, this year there will be just one large skating rink and no toddler rink.

The Assembly Hall Theatre, which manages the rink for the Council, is asking visitors and staff to wear a face covering and comply with NHS Track and Trace.

Additional skates will be in stock to allow time for them to be cleaned and sanitised between use and there will be extra space in the skate changing area to enable social distancing.

Cleaning regimes will be enhanced, sanitiser stations will be on site and there will be more toilets available.

This year the bar and café alongside the rink will be in a semi-open marquee to promote air flow and there will be increased outdoor seating.
