Start a career that makes a real change
We’re pleased to be supporting the Local Government Association’s national recruitment campaign.
The campaign ‘Make a Difference, Work for your Local Council’, aims to inspire people to explore career opportunities that have a direct and lasting impact on the lives of local residents.
Local councils provide essential services that residents rely on every day, including social care for adults and children, planning, environmental health and finance. Following a successful pilot in the North East of England, the campaign highlights the wide range of roles available in council services, welcoming people from all backgrounds and skill levels who are looking to begin a new role in local government.
Talking about the campaign Council Chief Executive William Benson said: ‘I didn’t set out to work in local government but I am so glad that I found it as a career. The time I have spent working for local councils has been hugely rewarding. In what other job can you play such a meaningful role in shaping your local area? We provide homes and infrastructure for people, we support local businesses to grow the economy, we ensure our communities live healthy and safe lives, support vulnerable people and connect people and bring joy to residents through access to recreation, culture and the arts. You literally see the impact of your work every single day.
It’s a great place to develop your skills and progress up the career ladder. One of the things that gives me most satisfaction is seeing colleagues learn and move through the organisation. We deliver a huge range of services requiring a wide range of skills. Why not keep an eye out for opportunities for you to make a difference in your local community? ’
By working for your local council you could make a positive impact on the lives of people in your community. Working for a council offers professional training and development opportunities and you could improve your work/life balance. Is it time to see your career take off in one of the hundreds of different roles on offer?
