Remembrance Sunday 10 November 2019
You are invited to the service of Remembrance, Thanksgiving and Dedication which takes place at 10.45am on Sunday 10 November at the War Memorial in Royal Tunbridge Wells.
The service will be conducted by the Mayor’s Chaplain and Vicar of King Charles the Martyr, Reverend Laurence Powell.
Following the service and laying of wreaths there will be a March Past. For the March Past the civic party will return to the steps of the Town Hall from where the Mayor will take the salute.
Tunbridge Wells Cemetery Civic Event
At 2pm the Tunbridge Wells Cemetery Civic Event will be held when you are invited to join the Mayor for the laying of wreaths at the four war memorials in the cemetery - the two Crosses of Sacrifice, the Civilian War memorial and the RAF Memorial.
Exhibition and Talk
An exhibition about the Second World War will be open from 1pm until 4pm in the Friends of Tunbridge Wells Cemetery Chapel. Refreshments will be available in the Chapel from 2.40pm.
At 3pm John Cohen OBE, Chairman of the Royal Tunbridge Wells Branch of the Royal British Legion will give a talk on the Phoney War, September 1939 to May 1940.
Armistice Day Monday 11 November – 11am
The Mayor will be joining representatives of the Royal British Legion in Royal Tunbridge Wells to commemorate Armistice Day. There will be a short ceremony in front of the War Memorial at 11am when the traditional two minutes’ silence will be observed. You are welcome to take part in the commemorations.
Traffic
It is likely that there will be disruption to traffic in the town centre on Sunday 10 November, particularly in the area around the Town Hall. Roads may be closed at times between 8am until approximately midday.
