Armistice Day 11 November and Remembrance Sunday 14 November 2021

Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday will be commemorated at ceremonies taking place in Royal Tunbridge Wells.

Armistice Day

The Mayor will be joining representatives of the Royal British Legion at the War Memorial in Royal Tunbridge Wells on Thursday 11 November at 11am to commemorate the Armistice.

There will be a short ceremony and the traditional two minutes’ silence will be marked by the sounding of maroons. You are welcome to attend.

Remembrance Sunday

Watch the service live at twbc.online/remembrance

You are invited to the service of Remembrance, Thanksgiving and Dedication which will take place at 10.45am on Sunday 14 November at the War Memorial in Royal Tunbridge Wells.

The service will be conducted by the Mayor’s Chaplain, Bishop George Fahey, Bishop of the Tunbridge Wells Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and Reverend Laurence Powell, Vicar of King Charles the Martyr Church.

Wreaths will be laid by members of the civic party, representatives of service organisations, political parties and local groups, and members of the public.

Following the service and laying of wreaths there will be a March Past. For the March Past the civic party will return to the steps of the Town Hall from where the Mayor will take the salute.

If you are attending the service in person we would suggest wearing a face covering as this can reduce the risk to others and yourself against the spread of infection.

Event at Tunbridge Wells Cemetery

Members of the public are also invited to join the Deputy Mayor Councillor Godfrey Bland at 12:15pm on Sunday 14 November for the Civic Event at Tunbridge Wells Cemetery. Wreaths will be laid at the four war memorials in the cemetery - the two Crosses of Sacrifice, the Civilian War memorial and the RAF Memorial - in memory of the servicemen and women and the civilians who are buried there.

Traffic and road closures

There will be disruption to traffic in the town centre on Sunday 14 November, particularly in the area around the Town Hall. Please be aware that roads may be closed at times from around 10am until approximately midday and on-street parking may be restricted. You are advised to allow extra time for journeys.

Across the borough

Remembrance services will also be taking place in towns and villages across the borough, please see local websites for details.
