Public spaces protection order consultation, 16 July 2021 – 29 August 2021
We would like to hear your views about proposed changes to the existing Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs).
We are consulting on a number of measures that could be helpful in addressing issues that have been brought to our attention by residents and others who work in the borough. These include:
- Amending the dogs on leads requirement to an outright ban at The Nevill Ground, Tunbridge Wells
- Introducing a dogs on leads requirement in part of Dunorlan Park, Tunbridge Wells
- Controlling overnight access at St John’s Park, Tunbridge Wells
- Addressing anti-social behaviour at Sherwood Lake, Tunbridge Wells and multi-storey car parks
There’s much more information within the consultation itself so we would encourage you to take the time to read it and consider responding. Your views are important to us and will help shape the way we implement any prohibitions or requirements.
Cabinet member Councillor David Scott said: ‘Our aim is to enable everyone to enjoy our open spaces while respecting others. The existing PSPOs have, in the main, worked well to encourage this aim. We will retain those provisions that provide us with appropriate protection of our open spaces. The Council wants to hear your views on a number of proposed changes to the PSPOs and so I would ask for your help in taking just a few minutes to read what the changes mean and let us know what you think.’
What are Public Space Protection Orders
Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPOs) are a provision of the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014. A PSPO can provide a local authority, and partners such as Kent Police, with the means to address persistent anti-social and other types of unwanted behaviour in public spaces.
